There’s nothing worse than that sinking feeling you get when another parent asks you what fancy dress costume your child is going to wear to school next week and you haven’t got a clue what they are talking about.
“It’s all in the email” Yes, that would be the email I meant to open but didn’t and now I have less than a week to sort out two costumes for World Book Day. Terrific!
Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that the school gets so actively involved in things like this. It’s just that it gets expensive and I would rather not spend money on something which is only going to get worn once. Whilst my kids love dressing up for school, they are not huge fans of fancy dress at home so any new costumes would simply get left behind in the cupboard, with only a dusty Elsa and Rapunzel dress for company.
So, in order to save money, I have come up with a cheap alternative to fancy dress costumes using only cardboard, paint, paper fasteners and a little imagination.
See below for my step by step guide of how to make a Stick Man and James and the Giant Peach costume for World Book Day.
Cut the cardboard to size
Paint the cardboard
Attach cardboard together with paper fasteners
Voila, World Book Day on a budget.
It may break after a day at school, but it won’t break the bank!
Happy World Book Week everyone.
